SENIOR FALL LEAF TOUR SCHEDULED FOR SEPTEMBER 27TH
The Aspen Rotary Club’s annual Senior Fall Leaf Tour is scheduled for Saturday, September 27th. at 10 a.m. The day will start with coffee and doughnuts at the Pitkin County Senior Center. From there, Rotarians will take Seniors on a scenic drive up the front of Aspen Mountain and down the back side to the Lindley Hut, all the while taking in the beauty of the Fall Colors. At the Lindley Hut, Seniors will enjoy a BBQ meal and Sing-a-long with Dave Ratcliff. Seniors throughout the Valley are invited to participate.
“The outing provides a unique opportunity for Seniors to get out and enjoy the beauty of the fall colors that they wouldn’t have without the help of the Aspen Rotary Club” says Senor Services Program Coordinator Mary Baubour. “People count on it year and after and start asking about it in June and July.” Each year, approximately 30 seniors participate in the event.
The cost is $15/person which includes the day’s 4-wheel drive leaf tour, lunch and sing-a-long. Senior scholarships are available through the Aspen Rotary Club.
The Leaf Tour was started in the early 1970s. In 1999, the Aspen Rotary Club added a Community Work Day to the Leaf Tour. Today, in addition to organizing and staffing the Senior Leaf Tour, Rotarians volunteer their time for a “work day” where they split and stack wood; work on the grounds; and clean the hut.
Members of the community are invited to help in the work day at the Lindley Hut. Volunteer drivers with four-wheel drive vehicles are also needed. For information about Senior scholarships or to volunteer, please contact either Justin Barrow at 948-0585 or Jeremiah Dancy at 948-8878.
