ROTARY STUDY ABROAD SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE
Aspen, Colorado College students, graduate students, and working professionals are all encouraged to apply for Rotary study abroad scholarships. The Rotary scholarships are designed to further international understanding and goodwill and are available in more than 160 countries where Rotary clubs are located. The scholarships range in value from $11,000 to $60,000 each. In total, Rotary awards approximately 1000 scholarships each year, equaling more than $20 million.
College students may apply to be an “Ambassadorial Scholar.” Ambassadorial Scholarships are for a full year of study abroad at a recognized college or university in any foreign country where Rotary clubs are located. These students act as “ambassadors of goodwill” by appearing before Rotary clubs and districts, schools, civic organizations and other forums, where they represent their homelands and work to further international understanding. The scholarship includes tuition, books, fees, room and board and round trip air fare. The value of this scholarship is up to $24,000.
Those interested in obtaining a Master’s level degree in international relations, peace and conflict resolution may apply for a World Peace Scholarship. Applicants must have at least three years of professional experience in a field related to peace and conflict resolution. Recipients study at one of seven Rotary Centers for International Studies in peace and conflict resolution to obtain a Master’s level degree or certificate in international relations, peace and conflict resolution. The scholarships cover tuition, books, fees, room and board and round-trip air fare. The value of this scholarship is up to $60,000.
Working professionals interested in furthering their foreign language skiils may apply for a Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarship. These scholarships cover three months of intensive foreign language study and include tuition and fees, room and board with a host family, and round-trip airfare. The value of this scholarship is up to $11,000.
Completed applications must be received by March 30th, 2008. Applicantions should be mailed to the Aspen Rotary Club, c/o Don Westerlind, 315 E. Main Street, Aspen, CO 81611. Initial interviews will take place in Aspen on Monday, April 6th. Applicants who are selected as candidates by the Aspen Rotary Club will then be interviewed in Glenwood Springs, Colorado by the Rotary District 5470 Scholarship Committee the weekend of May 9-10, 2008.
